Frequently Asked Questions
How many treatment sessions will it take to remove the pigmented lesion?
Most common pigmented lesions are removed with one or two treatments. If a lesion covers a large area, your physician may want to treat the area in several stages, to avoid unnecessary discomfort.
Is the process painful?
The laser emits light in very short pulses. The impact of the energy from the powerful pulse of light is similar to the snap of a thin rubber band. Most of our clients are able to tolerate the treatment without difficulty. However, since each person’s level of sensitivity is different and treatment areas may vary, a topical numbing crème is available. After treatment, the area will feel similar to a slight sunburn. Typically, within a day or so, any discomfort disappears. The area may remain red for two to four weeks. After the redness clears, the skin returns to its normal color and texture.
Does the laser remove my normal skin pigmentation also?
No, the Apogee Elite laser light was designed effectively to target the dark concentration of melanin. After the abnormal concentrations of melanin are removed and treatment continues on normal skin, some whitening could occur. However, your body's natural regenerative system would replace the normal melanin after a period of time, returning the skin to its natural color.
Can the excess pigmentation come back?
Common pigmented lesions do not return. Some birthmarks may return after a period of several months to a year. However, the procedure can be repeated with similar results.
Patient Information : Pre-Treatment Instructions (Laser):
No plucking, waxing, depilatory or bleaching for a minimum of 1 week prior to your first treatment only. We ask that you refrain from any plucking, waxing, depilatory or bleaching during the laser treatment process; these methods will interfere with the laser treatment and may result requiring more treatments to achieve desired results. Shaving is permitted during laser treatments.
Please remove make-up, deodorants, and lotions in treatment area prior to treatment. Ladies: If you are treating your bikini area please wear white underwear, because the laser is attracted to dark colors.
Shaving may not be required prior to your first treatment. Please call for further instructions. A minimum fee of $25.00 will be charged for unshaven areas following your first treatment.
If you've started any antibiotics or any other medications that may make you photosensitive, please let us know. We may have to reschedule your appointment. Also notify us if there has been any change in your health status (new medications, heart condition, et cetera).
Sun exposure and tanning beds should be avoided for 3 days pre and post treatment. If sun exposure is unavoidable use a minimum "SPF 30 SUNSCREEN".For maximum desired results, multiple treatments will be required at regular scheduled intervals.
Cancellation Policy:
It is important to please call if you are unable to make your appointment. We require a minimum 24-hour notice. There will be a minimum fee of $75.00 for anyone who fails to show or does not cancel at least 24 hours prior to a scheduled appointment. We have invested a great deal of money into the most advanced lasers and medical staff to provide you the best results. If you fail to show up for your appointment, this amounts to considerable lost revenue, which in turn will result in future price increases. You are extremely valuable to us as a customer and it is not our intention to offend anyone and we thank you in advance for your cooperation.
